Guest Lecture on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace ‘

The Anti-Harassment Cell for Women Employees organised a Guest Lecture on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace ‘ on 14 th September 2019.Chief Guest Prof.Ujwala.Sirnadgouda opined that, women are particularly victimised in the Indian society. Sex and gender are not synonymous, the discrimination between the sexes and their
stereotyped role imposed by the society has led to harassment of women. Both men and women are blinded by the societal and cultural background. The notion that women should be confined to the four walls of the house is very much prevalent even in this modern era. Women in large numbers are taking up jobs, this rise in working women has changed the scenario of the workplaces which was once dominated by men. This is not being fathomed by the patriarchal society of India which has led to the occurrence of this heinous crime against women. In order to curb this problem, the Government of India enacted a law on ‘The Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace(Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 to ensure safe working place for women and to build enabling work environment. Dr.Z.S.Qureshi, Principal presided over the function. He stressed on instilling moral values among the youths. He opined, Sexual harassment is a form of violence and discriminatory treatment against
women. He said that, when law is enforced-it will be implemented as and when required. Presiding Officer Dr.Ruqqia, members of the committee Prof.B.S.Inamdar, Lect.Rizwana.Inamdar, Staff
and Students were present.
